Pilates is a a form of exercise which builds and improves core strength and stability. It targets the deep postural muscles of the body which stabilise and control movement and posture.
Pilates is used by many as gentle, toning exercise; as part of a more intensive exercise programme, or as a rehabilitative programme to improve pain, weaknesses or movement problems. The programme taught at PhysioTone is the Pilates mat-work method, combining the traditional Pilates methods with the physiotherapeutic knowledge and experience of its instructors.
Pilates is a fantastic way of correcting posture, managing long-term problems such as back pain, post-pregnancy weaknesses and even improving performance in sports at every level. The Pilates method is proven to correct body alignment, address muscle strength and balance and build core stability. Using natural movements, Pilates is particularly beneficial for those with back pain, neck, shoulder and postural problems.
The classes will be suitable for every individual, regardless of fitness, age or ability, and can be modified to suit your personal needs and achieve specific fitness goals for everyone. They will run in 6-week blocks, covering core stabilisation, alignment, breathing, posture and relaxation.

We recommend that before commencing a full Pilates programme, you have a physiotherapy assessment to help us identify any individual problems and enable us to tailor the programme to meet your personal needs.
